Last November, we held an industry panel event at 180 Strand Soho House, bringing together creators and core players in the industry including Rosie Festus (Magnum), Hayel Watermberg (Word on the Curb), Creator Ehis Ilozobhie and Creative Strategist Jennifer Adetoro.
Discussing topics such as the do’s and don’ts of working with creators during Black History Month, how brands should be more open to working with Black creators all year round and the influencer racial pay gap.

- Brands aren’t missing the mark, they don’t intend to hit the mark. Brands not making an effort to engage with consumers from this community results in a failure to engage with anyone.
- The Black pound was £3 billion in 2003 and today is now worth £300 billion.
- Brands can engage with the Black community outside of just activating during Black History Month. A big signpost for brands that are genuine in their relationships with the Black community are brands that include Black creators in their bigger campaigns across the year.
- Curb the influencer pay gap by being transparent.
- Make sure black voices are heard and amplified both in-house and when working with creators.
- Grow with creators. Learn from positive initiatives such as YouTube Black and PrettyLittleThing’s consistent long-term collaboration with Nella Rose.
